SCRAP Weapons invites you to a UN NGO hybrid event at the Episcopal Church Center, New York on:

Interreligious Dialogue and Disarmament: Supporting the UN Secretary General’s Recommendations on Disarmament in the New Agenda for Peace

Thursday 5th October 2023, 2-3.30pm EDT

The Episcopal Church and SCRAP Weapons invite speakers from different faith-based organisations and religious denominations to contribute to a panel along with researchers, former officials and NGOs on the theme of “Interreligious Dialogue and Disarmament”.

Stimulated by the severity of present circumstances, and the need to redirect resources away from military spending towards Sustainable Development Goals, SCRAP Weapons has built a global constituency of Ambassadors, UN officials, academics, religious organisations and peacebuilding NGOs, to campaign for the reactivation of the General Assembly’s mechanism of Special Sessions Devoted to Disarmament (SSOD), as recommended by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres in the “New Agenda for Peace” policy brief (July 2023).

SCRAP Weapons (www.scrapweapons.com) is a project housed at SOAS University of London, campaigning for “general and complete disarmament”. This focuses not only on the elimination of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), but also on the limitation of all types of conventional weapons, including guns.

If you wish to register to attend in person please do email Ms Lynnaia Main at: lmain@episcopalchurch.org. Note: the room at the Episcopal Church Center has limited capacity (35 people), so please do email Ms Main if you wish to participate in person.

Coffee, tea and refreshments will be offered after the event.
